Day 4 and 5 of the Whole30 challenge were fine in terms of me sticking to the "Yes" list and avoiding all foods on the "No" list. However, I decided to have chicken for dinner on Day 4 and apparently, it was tainted stuff. I, along with my roommate who is doing the Whole30 challenge, ended up violently ill by the end of the evening. It was not fun.
I was already feeling a bit soggy and foggy due to the sugar and bad carb elimination, so getting sick just pulled me down further. I got fluids and some antibiotics, so hopefully that will help. I've never felt as weak as I do right now, and I know that's mostly from being sick. I did manage to make some spectacular soup tonight, which I will try to keep down throughout the weekend.
Here's what I did to make my soup:
I boiled 2 sweet potatoes, 1 onion, some cabbage, cauliflower and 1 green bell pepper in chicken stock, coconut oil and coconut milk.
Once that cooked down almost into mush, I added tons of fresh spices and garlic.
Then I pureed everything in a blender.
I took a little taste so as to not create any stomach drama and it's pretty darn fantastic. One of my friends actually made a soup similar to this recipe when I had my tonsils out last year. It was tasty, hearty and it didn't bother my throat - three very important factors after a tonsillectomy.
Anyway, the soup is delish and totally Whole30, which will help me get through this weekend. I need to go back to the store and get a few more staple items, but I have a feeling I'm going to just focus on recovering from my massive chicken faux pas.
