Whole30 Week 1 in Review

Well, the weekend (Days 6 and 7) came and went with the food poisoning incident, and I survived. I'm still working toward Day 30, and I'm actually starting to feel good. I still have cravings and urges to eat poorly, but I think that's going to be a monkey on my back for a while.
I made my mama's beef vegetable soup, which was delicious. It's a tomato-based soup with okra, green beans, cabbage, beef and carrots. Normally, it also has green peas, potatoes and corn but those are not allowed in the Whole30 challenge. I ate the soup throughout the weekend and even have some leftover for today's lunch.
The one thing I've learned from my first week battling it through the Whole30 challenge is that I have to really think about what I'm eating before I eat it. I read labels and I pay attention. There is no mindless face-stuffing anymore. I make conscious choices and I think about why I'm making them. I've been on hundreds of diets and tried several nutritional challenges, but none of those programs have ever taught me as much as the Whole30 challenge has taught me in one week.
The Whole30 challenge is one of the hardest things I've ever done, but something about how hard it is tells me it's worth it.
Onto Day 8...
